ASSMANN & SPIES – A partnership that goes beyond a single project

For me, sustainability works when we talk openly with one another, learn from each other and implement things. We‘ve been working with ASSMANN Büromöbel GmbH in this way for years, regular as equals and without any sense of competition. We‘re connected not only by our proximity, but also by the size and structure of our companies. And yet we operate in different industries. It‘s important to us that sustainability doesn‘t remain confined to strategy papers, but is put into practice in our day-to-day work. And so, time and again, our exchanges give rise to concrete steps that we tackle together.

What we are currently working on
In the course of our discussions, a joint project has emerged: we are advancing our climate management together. To this end, we‘re sharing our methods, aligning assumptions and system boundaries, and improving data quality. At the same time, we‘re streamlining processes – data collection, verification, reporting – and translating this into a practical climate strategy. The goal: a framework that works in practice and clearly sets the direction for us.

SBTi: A clear next step for SPIES
At the beginning of the year, we at SPIES registered with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). For us, this is another important step towards greater commitment and transparency. We plan to have our climate targets validated and published before the end of this year. As the SBTi limits the base year to a maximum of two years prior to submission, the base year and target years will be continuosly adjusted accordingly.

Why we are continuing to work together
Different perspectives make targets better. That‘s why our successful collaboration is continuing. In addition to ongoing exchange, we have decided to meet once a year to reflect on each other's progress, critically examine our work, share experiences, review assumptions, and set benchmarks. This way, we ensure that we can identify deviations early on and make adjustments more quickly. This improves our decision-making, increases the impact of our measures and makes our progress measurable.

And after that?
We‘re thinking beyond the project, and the collaboration continues – in climate management and other sustainability issues. I‘m grateful for this wonderful partnership and believe it‘s a great example of how valuable and enriching networking can be.
