My update after the first months
A lot has already happened since I took up the position of Sustainability Manager. In this article, I would like to give you a brief overview of the progress made so far and an outlook on the upcoming milestones. To begin with, I had a familiarisation phase on the agenda. This included not only introducing myself to existing contacts and networks, but also an intensive familiarisation with the various sustainability topics that are relevant to SPIES. This phase was of course essential in order to gain a deeper understanding of the strategic and operational challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
A key project in recent months has been the preparation of the Sustainability Report for 2023 in accordance with the German Sustainability Code (DNK). The report is currently in the review phase by the DNK office and has given me valuable insights into our various sustainability topics within the company. In close dialogue with the various departments, we were able to develop a comprehensive presentation of our sustainability performance.
Another key topic is preparing for the CSRD reporting obligation. From 2025, we will be required to report in accordance with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) for the first time. This means that we will need to know the relevant data points from 1 January 2025 and, above all, ensure that they are valid.
Strategy work is also in full swing. It is now common knowledge that sustainability has a firm place in our corporate strategy. Accordingly, we are continuing to work on our sub-strategies in order to achieve our overarching goals. Among other things, we are currently focussing on developing a climate strategy based on the calculation of our corporate carbon footprint. We are also developing an ESG reporting system to establish a quantifiable sustainability management system. In this way, we are laying the foundations for anchoring sustainability as an integral part of our corporate success.
Stay tuned - I look forward to being able to tell you more about our next steps soon!
PS: How are you preparing for the CSRD reporting obligation? Are you ready to go yet?
