Anyone who reports possible violations of the law deserves special protection. For this purpose, the EU has adopted the "Whistleblower Directive". This serves to "protect persons who report violations of EU law" and obligates companies from a certain size to set up an anonymous reporting channel for possible hints.
The EU directive prevents whistleblowers from being subjected to negative consequences as a result of their report. This applies in particular to the reporting of violations of data protection, environmental protection, product safety, traffic safety and suspected money laundering, but also to other conduct and actions that are considered to be illegal.
